# YouTube TV Says I'm Using a VPN or Proxy

> **What YouTube TV shows:** YouTube TV won't play while it detects a VPN or proxy, or says some channels aren't available in your area.

### Why YouTube TV does this

YouTube TV's help says you can't stream from it, or from channels that restrict playback, while connected to a VPN or proxy.

It shows local channels and sports by area: you give a home ZIP code when you sign up, and it may ask for your device's location to confirm you're there. An address that belongs to a VPN, a datacenter or a privacy relay hides your area.

### How to fix it

1. Turn off any VPN, proxy or iCloud Private Relay and restart the app.
2. Allow YouTube TV to use your device's location in the browser or phone settings, and check your home area in YouTube TV's settings.
3. Restart your router for a new address and check that the city above is near you.
4. If your home address is placed in the wrong area, that's the location databases: see why your IP shows another city.

### Why does YouTube TV think I'm using a VPN?

Your address looks like a VPN, proxy or datacenter to it, or doesn't match your device's location. Mobile networks and privacy relays are common reasons.

### Why does YouTube TV show the wrong local channels?

It goes by the area your address is placed in. If the city above is wrong, YouTube TV is working from the same wrong place.
