Why Netflix does this

Netflix shows a different catalog in each country, so it blocks addresses it believes come from VPNs, proxies and datacenters, where people go to switch countries.

It judges the address, not your apps. A home address can be flagged when your provider recycled it from a VPN company, when it goes through iCloud Private Relay or Cloudflare, or when your router sends traffic over an IPv6 tunnel.

How to fix it

  1. Turn off any VPN or proxy (Netflix's help says this is done in the VPN's own app), and any "secure browsing" feature in your antivirus. Then fully close and reopen Netflix.
  2. Netflix's help suggests fast.com to see where Netflix thinks you are. The country on this page is the same kind of lookup.
  3. On iPhone or Mac, turn off iCloud Private Relay for this network. In Edge, turn off Secure Network. In Opera, turn off the built-in VPN.
  4. Restart your router to get a new address from your provider, then check this page again: the address should change.
  5. Still flagged on a plain home connection? Tell your provider Netflix flags your address. They can give you a different one.

Fixed something? Reload this page: the checks above update with your new connection.

What is Netflix error M7111-5059?

It's the code people see with Netflix's proxy message: Netflix believes your connection comes through a VPN, proxy or unblocker and won't stream until it doesn't.

How does Netflix decide where I am?

From the address your connection comes from. Netflix's help explains that VPN apps make a device look like it's connecting from somewhere else, which is why it shows this message.
